Hello everyone! What a beautiful day it was in the Great Northwest on Saturday! Regina, Ava, Genelle, and I drove up to Mt. St. Helens from Gresham, Oregon. It was a beautiful drive that took about two hours. The walk was part of the 2015 AVA National Convention that was held last week in Salem, Oregon. The start point of the walk was at Coldwater Lake. This lake was formed after the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Here is a picture of the start point.

There are several new lakes in the area now. Here is a picture of the Trail Marker telling how the lakes were formed. It's really amazing how the forests are regrowing. It's absolutely breathtaking country.
There were two trail options, a 4k and a 6k. The 4k went along the northwest side of Clearwater Lake and back along a very narrow path. The 6k was on the Hummocks Trail. Hummocks are steep-sided hills that were created on the surface after the Mt. St. Helens eruption.
There were a lot of flowers. Some tiger lillies were even spotted! I especially love the huge ferns.
Beautiful picture of Mt. St. Helens and Coldwater Lake. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.
We always try to find a good place to eat in the area of our walks, so we usually ask the local people. The people at the Forest Learning Center (located at Milepost 33 in the Blast Zone) said Patty's Place is the place to eat, and they were right!
Patty's Place is located at Milepost 19 on Spirit Mountain Highway. They have friendly service and very good food. They are especially known for their berry cobblers.
Well. that's it for now.
Happy Walking!
